About Alan Morschel

Alan Morschel established his sole operating architectural practice in 2001. As a resident of Canberra since the 1950s he has a very clear understanding of the Canberra region and its future opportunities for change and growth.

The core focus of the practice is in residential projects, having worked on new houses, alterations and additions and multiunit redevelopments.

Alan holds a Bachelor of Architecture, is a Greensmart Professional and holds current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance. He has won awards for the HIA Custom Built House Open 2006 and the HIA Country House 2006.

Design Approach

Recognising the specific climate of the ACT; maximising winter sun and summer shade and natural cross ventilation.
Understanding the orientation of the site and other site conditions, material selections and planning for long term adaptation.
Minimising the production of greenhouse gases and energy use and making the house as cost effective as possible and comfortable throughout the seasons.
Providing advice on environmentally sustainable inclusions such as water storage and reuse.
Producing a functional layout, distinctive and appealing appearance.

Defining clients’ requirements and preparing a brief.
Production of concepts sketches (may include various options).
Development of the design sketch plan.
Liaison with neighbours, planning authority and other regulatory agencies.
Production of drawings suitable for development and building approval.
Preparation of documents for calling builders to competitive tender.
Administration of the building contract.
