Project description

In 2007, Peter and Maryann found a house for auction which they loved immediately and were determined to buy. The house was built in 1972 and was spread over five levels, including a basement and lots of usable space. It had been partly renovated and needed an upgrade to some of the more recent features.

Hot Chippies was selected as the builder to help Peter and Maryann realise their vision. They were also pleased that Hot Chippies’ sub-contractors were well known to them, mostly local and provided a similar high level of craftsmanship and efficiency.

The renovation work involved:

enhancing some of the best architectural features
restoring a verandah off the main bedroom and installing French doors
rebuilding the upstairs bathroom and ensuite;
moving and adding new doorways
building a small extension which doubled as a pantry and links the house to the garage,
fitting out a large utility room in the former garage space
pest-proofing the garage
landscaping and building a feature wall at the side of the new extension
installing new paving and creating a small courtyard
Increasing environmental sustainability of the house by
- increasing insulation wherever possible,
- incorporating pelmets where appropriate,
- installing a new timber floor in the living room and cork to the utility room
